Map of Alaska's Arctic Region

The Arctic Region of Alaska is perhaps the most remote and inaccessible portion of the state. The only major road that traverses the Arctic is the Haul Road or Daulton Highway. This is a major transportation route for access to the Oilfields of the North Slope of Alaska. The highways destination to the North is Deadhorse. This is basically a trip to the oilfields of Prudhoe Bay. If you have the time and the interest, this is a world class Oil production operation and is set against the Arctic Ocean. The Oil companies have done a wonderful job of producing oil and at the same time preserving the environment. Caribou and other arctic animals can be seen along the roads to and at the Oil fields. The last portion of the trip is very flat and very desolate, but offers a look at the North Slope of Alaska. Other more available trip options include a flight to Barrow, which is the largest city in the Arctic region, and has scheduled commercial flights. The Native culture is dominate and a real treat for those seeking a look at Alaska's native lifestyle. Bring your wallet, because nothing is inexpensive in this remote part of the world.
