Salmon Fishing gallery 1

Salmon fishing for the mighty king is the first big event of the Alaskan summer. Just as the kings return like clockwork each spring, anglers seem to come from all directions to try to catch the BIG one or maybe just to restock their freezer after a long winter. King Salmon seem to have a crazy effect on anglers, as people will stand for hours, elbow to elbow, just for the chance to bring home a trophy. Patience, tolerance, and bug spray are always in order to fish Alaska's road fisheries.

Effectionately called 'combat fishing' and often described as a circus, I would just advise to expect the unexpected and come with a good attitude! When the fish are biting, I can honestly say, you'll leave with a few good fish stories, and some of them might even involve fish.

These photos were taken on a sunny spring day on Sheep Creek, about 80 miles north of Anchorage. A lucky fisherman might catch a fish 50 lbs. or more.

The fish are in!
