Map of Alaska - Southeast
The Southeast is the home of the Alaska capitol, Juneau. Southeast Alaska is unique in it's culture and remote nature. Most of southeast Alaska is accessible only by boat or plane. The native Indians, the Tlingits (pronounced klin-kits) are perhaps best known for their Totem Poles that have long been an Alaskan Trademark. Fishing, logging, and tourism keep the people of southeast busy. Main destination points accessible by the airlines are Juneau, Sitka, or Ketchikan. Other smaller communities are also accesssible by plane or the ferry system. This is a great place for hiking, fishing, kayaking, or taking tours to get a feel for Alaska's storied past.
